Theme: Selling Links

July 25, 2007

One of my big earners each month is selling links to other people’s sites. Although Google says that it is wrong and they try to police the buying and selling of links, it still remains a strong, powerful, great way of getting an extra amount of money in your pocket. So, let’s assume that you have already set up your site, you are writing content, you are getting people to link to your site because the site is awesome and people love it, and when the first page rank update comes around, bam, bam, bam, you are now at a PR of 4. Congratulations. Now, let’s break down two ways of selling links.

Private Sales: What private sales means is that you are taking full control of the sale of your links. You determine the price and you do everything by yourself. You find the client, you charge the client, and you are responsible for ensuring that the client pays each and every month. If you forget to notify the client at the end of the money that their payment is due, they may forget and you may forget and voila, they’ve got a link for free. So basically, you are doing all of the work trying to sell the links when you could be doing other things. The benefit, though, to using private sales is that you get to keep all of the profits. If you sell your links for $20.00 a link, you get to keep the $20.00 each and every month.

Text-Link-Ads: One site that I use when I am selling links is Text-Link-Ads. I know that by using them, I am losing out on half of my money, but I am a firm believer that they are really quite capable of getting you a lot of customers. They provide the necessary marketplace for publishers to sell their space and advertisers to buy it. They provide everything that is needed. Sure, they take half of the cost per link, but they also are responsible for: ensuring that each month the person pays, that the links go down if someone doesn’t pay, and that they find buyers.

By using a service like Text-Link-Ads, what you are doing is allowing yourself to focus on the growth of your site rather than having to sell the ads. Do you think that the sales people in a big corporation worry about what is going on in research and development? Do you think that the advertising department is worried about how much money sales is making? No, they want to focus on what they are tasked to work on. That is why I don’t have a problem paying TLA half my money so that they can focus on that side of the work while I focus on this side. But, it is all about opinions.

Theme: Use a Time Stamp

July 24, 2007

One thing that is very good for bloggers is the ability to keep their blog updated every single day without having to touch a computer for a few days. Now, you may be asking yourself, how in the world can this be done? How can this possibly be done? It’s called a time stamp. Basically, you write the post and then punch in the exact time and date that you want it to be posted.

So, why do I mention this? I am going on vacation tomorrow and I will be away for a few days. I don’t know if the hotel will have internet so because of this, I will need to use time stamps. I can write my blog posts tomorrow for the next four days. Granted, it will be just a bit harder because I have to think up a bunch of things to write about all at once, but perhaps I will be able to put together a series.

If you are ever going away on vacation or you know you’re not going to be around for a while, go use a time stamp. It doesn’t hurt to always have a post ready. You can always bump the time stamp date back more and more just to have it on reserve. One thing I would do is write one blog post and then every day just bump it back the next day. Use it when you have no motivation to write a blog post. It’ll really be a great way to ensure you keep your post frequency active.
