Earning Money

I remember when I first started earning money on the web, people asked me what I did and I explained that I worked online and made my money on there. And then they’d respond, “Dude, that’s so cool…I wish I could do that…Oh, I got to go…McDonalds is calling me.” I’d stand there looking at them and then roll my eyes and go back to writing a blog post or something along those lines. And at first, I was like, “I guess I can understand what they’re saying. It’s tough.”

And then I stopped thinking that and looked at my control panel on Wordpress and looked down at my quarters that littered my desk and then I rolled my eyes. Making money on the web was as easy as one two three. I learned to count at a young age, why couldn’t I learn to make money on the web? And I did. But others were insistent that earning on the web was like rocket science and if I wanted to make money on the web, I’d have to have tons of money. And I’d hear this enough and finally, one day, I said “shut up” and I sat down one of my friends and I began to explain to them what they needed to make money on the web. So, I thought I’d give you that same list:

• You need $25.00. That’s IT! Get twenty five dollars and you can make money on the web. What for? Ten bucks for a .com and then $15.00 to pay for $5.00 a month hosting. So, for the next three months, you’re covered. So, for $25.00, you’re set.
• But wait a second! I can’t make websites, I don’t know HTML. So? Think I do? Guess what? Make a blog. It’s all set up. You type and then click “Publish” and suddenly you have a post! Amazing, huh?
• But how can I get people to see the site without money? You said I only needed $25! And I was right. Why do you need to spend money to make money? Guess what you can do: Guest Blog Posts. Stumble Upon. Digg. With those THREE things, you can get traffic.

By now, they are just sitting there looking at me as I explained each of those things. And they then pushed themselves to stand and rolled their eyes. “Whatever, dude,” they said and walked off. I sat there looking at them walk away and then shrugged. I didn’t care if they didn’t want to take the chance. I didn’t care if they were too afraid. It wasn’t my problem. I knew that I loved what I was doing and that was what mattered.

So…If you are one of those people that don’t think that they can make money online, read the above three bullets. With $25.00, Wordpress, and the ability to write compelling enough content that people digg and stumble you, you can easily make money. But you know what? If you’re still afraid or still don’t think you can, then go back to flipping your burgers. However…Let me tell you one thing. The feeling of working for yourself is absolutely amazing. Truly is. So, do it. Stop saying you can’t. Shut up. And do it. You’ll love it.

There are different types of blogs out there. There are review blogs, there are guide blogs, there are blogs that provide information on certain niches, and then there are news blogs. I could talk about each one of those, but for tonight, I want to touch on one of my personal favorites and one that I have the intention of using in the expansion of my blog network. Regardless, a news blog is a blog that provides the news on a particular niche. That is what, in my opinion, differentiates an online newspaper and a blog. The blog is of a certain niche.

When you pick that niche that you decide, you want to try and determine the look of the site. Now, I am going to be honest with you. When I started my political news blog, Daily Politics, I went out and I purchased a theme because I wanted it to have that professional look. And, I think with news blogs, that is an important things because you want to appear like an authority. Despite the fact that you might be a blogger and you might be small time in comparison to huge newspapers, what you are doing is showing that you take the topic seriously.

Now, the one thing that can be incredibly difficult is the creation of content. Since I am a political blogger, I can’t be everywhere at once. I can’t be in Nevada listening to the Democrats campaign. And I can’t be in South Carolina and Florida. I just can’t. What I recommend you do when you create a news blog is find about five or six different websites where you can find articles from and then write your articles based on them. I’m not saying plagiarize. I am telling you that you can use these articles to do research in writing your own articles.

The thing that you will find the hardest and that I find the hardest is doing everything for the blog. When you create a news blog, you are going to want to constantly report on the latest news. If people are going to rely on you for their news, they are going to want to ensure that they are getting up to date news. I can’t write about how Mike Huckabee won in Iowa because that was so long ago. You need to be up to date with your things and you need to constantly be updating the blog. This isn’t a blog every two or three days kind of site. This is a blog a few times a day.

But, to combat this, you can try and find other bloggers that are passionate about the same niche as you are. Paying them can be difficult, but the thing that is nice about a news blog is that since you are updating so often, you can really build considerable traffic. The income could be great and paying bloggers will be easier. That’s what my goal is for Daily Politics, though. If you can get two or three other bloggers who agree to update once or twice a day, you could really provide a lot of articles and that will make you a contender for news providing.

I like news blogs. They are difficult, but I like to provide news. And, it’s easier to find things to write about because you are taking different articles and then writing your own article. The difference between that and then a blog like this is that on this, I always have to think something new up. On something like that, the ideas are much easier. News blogs are a great kind of blog to create, but they require a considerable amount of work. But if you’re serious about doing it, I say go for it. Look for some good themes on the web and get going. But, that’s just me.
