Theme: A Pool Tournament

July 20, 2007

Similar to my idea about setting up a video game tournament, setting up a pool tournament is pretty similar. A lot of schools have one of two things. The first is that they have a pool table in the dorm building because it is something for the students to do and a lot of schools are good at offering things like that. The second is that there is a pub or a bar or something nearby to your school (or on school property) where students can go to play pool. Whichever, if you have a pool table around, this idea is really quite simple.

You set up a simple game of pool. You decide to charge $10.00 to buy into the game. If you have three pool tables, you can get the game going much faster. Get ten people to play or you can even try and go for twenty. Then what you do is set up a board in tournament style. As the people play, you write their name on the board if they win and continue going higher and higher. What you do for prize money is basically say, “winner will get half of the pot.” So, if you have twenty people playing for $10.00 a person, that’s $200.00. So, if the person won, they’d get $100.00.

If you think about it, this is a real basic idea to really make some cash. If you are a real business kind of person, perhaps you can set up two or three games a week OR set up one pool tournament and one video game tournament. Have one tournament on a Friday and the other on a Tuesday so that they don’t feel like they’re losing their money too fast. Do it this way and you could really be making some nice cash. Then all you need to do is put twenty five dollars aside a week and you’ll save up a lot of good money. Good luck trying it out!
