Theme: You Can’t Control the Blogosphere
February 8, 2008Ladies and gentlemen, I would like to propose a revolution. I would like to propose a new age. It is the Blog Age. Alright, so the Blog Age was started a while ago and there is no way a small time blogger like myself could be considered the ’start’ of a revolution, but let me tell you something, it has begun. Blogs are finally taking their turn in the age of media and in the age of information transmission. First it was basic HTML websites. Then it was better websites. And then basic CMS websites. And now…BLOGS!
Blogs have become the new means of information. Everyday, people come to Dorm Earning looking for information. They come to Dorm Earning expecting to find something that will not only help them make money, but will provoke thoughts inside their heads. They come looking for ideas for content. They come with the hopes that when they leave, whenever that may be, they will be just a bit more enlightened. What does that mean? That means that blogs are the new means of information. More so than newspapers and the such, blogs are IT!
And that brings me to my point which you can see in the title. You cannot control the blogosphere. As hard as someone may try, there is no way that it can be controlled. Once something starts to appear on it, there is no way that it can be stopped. It spreads like wildfire. If I were to say that someone was a really crappy person and to stay away from doing business with them, there is a good chance that someone MIGHT post it on their blog not five minutes later and before you know it, a fire has begun.
You can’t control us. The government can’t. The old media can’t. No one can control us. We are bloggers. We write about what we love and we do it because we love it. Sure, we make money. Sure, we can support ourselves. But when it comes down to it, we cannot be controlled. When the Founding Fathers of America signed the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution, giving us the right to Freedom of Speech, that was engraved in our heads forever. And the great thing is, blogs really give us that.
At one time, the only way you could REALLY express yourself to the public was if you were rich enough to get a newspaper made or if you became an opinion writer for a column. Other than that, you had to just tell your friends what was up or run for a political position. Now, though? Now, if I wanted to, I could create a blog about “why dogs are better than cats” and I could blog EVERYDAY and you know what, people would read it. I could get my opinion heard by as many people as I wanted. Whatever topic I wanted to write about, I could.
Blogs have become the new age of information. I can find out who is doing what in the Presidential race faster on a blog, sometimes, than even the big newspapers. We are uncontrollable. If we want to write something, we will. Anyone can become a blogger and that is what makes this a truly fascinating revolution. No one can stop the blog wave. Wordpress has allowed us to write. Other blog programs has allowed us to write. And we will. Newspapers, Radio, TV, none of that can stop us. My advice to you big companies? Join us…Because we will win.
