Another type of site that you can create is a directory. A directory is a form of getting links to a site for free. Basically, it is a collection of links that are all on one site. The owner of the directory offers a link to your site and in return, you either pay them or you give them a link back. Directories are a great way of getting links to your site and they are an amazing way to grow. However, being on the directory side of things is equally beneficial, if you know how to properly run a site. It’s not that hard to really get them up and running; that’s the easy part. The hard part is actually getting it powerful and making it become something.

The first step to getting it done is to start. Buy a domain name. Buy a domain name that fits into the niche that you want. Say you want to make a directory that has to do with blogs only, you would get a domain that has something to do with that blog. However, it doesn’t need to. I have seen random domain names become very nice directories. The point is that you need to buy a domain name and if you can, get it to work with your niche somehow. That is the first step…Getting a good domain name. Once you’ve done that, get the usual hosting and the such for making your site a real site and then you need to work.

I recommend phpld because it just looks the best. Sure, there are other places that you can get directory scripts, but phpld is what looks best in my opinion. So, I am going to recommend that you get phpld. Once you have actually installed it, you’re going to want to get some sort of a free skin or a paid one. You can usually find directories of free skins, so just google free phpld skins and you’ll find hundreds. People make them with the hopes of the link on the bottom that says “created by” being spread around the net a lot to get them a lot of links as well. Once you have set it up, create the different topics and ‘categories.’

Once you have set it up, you are going to want to advertise it. Go to any webmaster forum and you can find a place to advertise your directory. You’ll be surprised the initial traffic you can get as well as the people that are signing up. However, this is where you want to think about how you can earn. The first thing that you want to do, though, is build up your credibility. To do this, you need to try and get some link backs. If you can submit YOUR directory to other directories, you’ll get quite a few link backs. Another thing you can do is offer a free link from your site in return for a link to your site. However you can get links, do it. But, don’t be afraid to charge for Featured Links. You need to make a profit.

There is money to be made on directories. Sure, it takes a lot of work, but you can make a lot. One thing you can do is sell featured links. Another thing you could do is actually put adsense on your site. Adsense can earn even on directories. However you want to earn on your directory, remember that the most important thing that you can do is increase your page rank. The more links to your site you can get, the stronger it will be and the bigger it will be. The strong and bigger that your site is, the better your site is and the bigger it will grow. Try it out…You’ll be surprised to see how good it is.

I decided that rather than just MAKING money on your sites, I was going to help you out on how to get people to your site. This is an important post because like I have said before, traffic is an extremely important thing. However, where are you going to find the necessary traffic to really get your site going? How are you going to get the ball rolling once you have gotten the site built the way you like it? That’s why I am doing what I am doing. I have posted every single day on this site, but I know full well that I have not gotten a lot of visitors. But, soon, for every webmaster, the thing you want to ask is HOW to get your site known. Let me give you a few small tips, eh?

First and foremost, please read all there is to know about digg. You really wouldn’t believe the shear power that can come from having an article or two on digg. It’s how a lot of great sites got big. They used the traffic from getting a couple of articles dugg and people just stayed. It really can make a blog go from nothing to something, so if I have to recommend anything, really try and get yourself an article on the homepage of digg. But! make sure you have the hosting to support that huge rush of hosting.

The next thing that you can do to try and get your site well known and try and get some back links is to use text-link-ads. I highly recommend this for both an advertiser as well as a publisher. If you’re looking to make some money, trying out text-link-ads is a good move. But, it also helps having it as a way to get people to your site. If you get a couple of inexpensive links on different sites that are similar to your site, you could get people to rush over to your site. If you provide content or information that is good for them, you could really expect to see an increase in profits.

One final thing that I want to mention is ReviewMe!. I have not really mentioned them, but I will in a post in the future. That site is a great one for sure to get some good traffic. You pay a blogger to write a review about your site and they do. The great thing is that it links back to your site and that will send people there to check it out. Once again, if your content is really good, you can expect to see an increase in the number of readers. And that really is a great thing.

These are just a couple of ideas that I have to try and increase the number of readers on your site. I have said time and time again, traffic is very important for the growth of your site. Without it, you are not going to get anywhere. Building a site from scratch can be very difficult, but if you use a few of these techniques to really get your site known, you can expect to see an increase in all sorts of things. Oh!
