Theme: Become Friends With All Social Bookmarking Sites

February 27, 2008

It’s argued that you never want to put all your eggs in one basket when it comes to monetization of your website. Why? There’s just not as much money to be made when you rely on ONE program. But, if you spread out and try many different things, there’s no denying that you can make more. It’s how John Chow went from making $350 his first month earning on his blog to a little over $30K last month, a MASSIVE difference in a year and a few months.

The same can be said about the social bookmarking sites that we use to try and push traffic to our sites. There are many different of these and they all provide different things. Some are better for some things and some are better for others, but they are as big as they are because they provide us a service. But, the thing to remember is never to rely on one alone. Why? They don’t provide you with ALL the traffic there is to potentially get alone.

That’s why you want to take time to become friends with all the different social bookmarking sites. What one offers is different than the other, but they all offer what we, as webmasters, want: traffic. Because of that, we need to become friends with each of them. To do that, I recommend taking the time to find what articles work best on each one and then submitting one of your articles to it. If you use multiple methods to gain traffic, you’re going to get more.

But, one of the hardest parts is knowing which one to try and which ones are stupid. A lot on the web are not worth the time of day, but there are a few that I really recommend and I have found that I am getting more and more interested in submitting to these. The four that I recommend for people for the great increase in traffic are:

Each one looks different and each one provides something a little different. Some are better for bringing traffic very fast and some are better for bringing smaller amounts of traffic over a consistent period of time. Overall, though, they are all wonderful for bringing traffic. Get to know them and learn to rely on them for traffic. But, the same statement of ‘not relying on any one thing’ can be said about this; never stop building your links for search engine purposes and do blog comments to gain traffic. Do everything you can. But, get to know the social bookmarking sites. It really can benefit you.

Theme: Creativity With Your Ads Will Make You Easy to Remember

February 3, 2008

If you can’t guess what I am doing right now, then you live in the mountains where there is no television. Today is Super Bowl XLII and the New York Giants (yes!) are playing the New England Patriots. But, this post isn’t about how the Giants are going to stomp on the Patriots or anything. It’s about what happens when the game is not on and those wonderful Super Bowl Sunday advertisements are on. You can’t imagine how many times I have heard, “I cannot wait to see some of the advertisements.” It got me thinking.

Companies spend a lot of time trying to create ads for the Super Bowl because they know that millions and millions of people are going to be watching it. Gatorade, Budweiser, Coors, Toyota, and so many other companies advertise because what they are hoping is that their commercials will get people to buy things. But, the commercials aren’t just simple, basic, boring commercials. Oh no…The Super Bowl is known for their entertaining ads and their funny commercials. I can still remember commercials from three years ago.

But, why does this have ANYTHING to do with you, I am sure you’re asking. The reason these companies make so much money is because they create ads that are wonderfully creative and really stick out to people. And that is what this has to do with you. When you create an ad that is unique and creative, you are creating a brand for yourself. You are making yourself known because the ad that you make is going to stick in people’s minds. For instance, over at Tyler Cruz, he got new mascot logo made, but also got some new ads made. It’s those ads that I want to talk about.

If you look at the ads at the bottom of the post, what you are going to see are a few things:

  • They are bright. There is nothing dark about the ads and in my opinion, that is really important for an ad.
  • There is basic animation on the ads. Basically, the ads have some flashing on it to really catch people’s eyes. That’s what caught my eyes.
  • Finally, the ads provide enough information that really give the information that you are looking for.

I don’t agree with Tyler on a lot of things, but I am going to be honest: he gave the right information to the ad creating company to create ads that are not only flashy and really good to look at, but they are also creative. He’s got his mascot on it. That is an example of creating an ad on the web that is really going to stick out. The ads are creative and that is what is going to stick in my head. If I were to see those ads on a website a year from now, I would remember it.

So, when you are promoting your site, ensure that your ads are creative enough. By creating very creative ads, you are making yourself easy to remember. And when someone sees the ad for a second time, they’ll go, “Oh, that ad was really cool, I remember that, let’s go look again.” And that is what is going to bring you the most success. By being easy to remember and talked about, traffic will increase. So, I definitely recommend getting a very creative ad so that you can be easy to remember. I know I am working on getting some ads created. It brings the most success.
