Theme: Deep Links
April 25, 2008If you remember my post about the importance of links, you’ll read the difference between a link exchange and a back link. But, what you will notice is the one very obvious comparison between the two: both link to your homepage. The problem with only linking to your homepage is that it limits the amount of traffic you can get. Now, you are probably wondering what I mean by that. I mean, how would deep linking get you more traffic on your blog? When I first started learning about deep links, I really didn’t understand why it was important. I hadn’t realized the importance of two keywords: page views. I always assumed that unique visitors were the important parts of earning on the internet, but when I began to look into certain ad networks and cost per impression ads, I realized that page views were extremely important. But first…What IS a deep link?
A link to your homepage would be a link, for example, to DormEarning.com. As you can see here, I linked right to the homepage. Any link that goes to your homepage is just a link back. A deep link, though, is a link that goes to a particular page on your blog. So, since I am talking about deep links, I’ll deep link to my article about links (as seen above). So, a deep link would be linking to my article: the importance of links. This link takes you to one of the articles that I previously wrote. But, who cares? When trying to increase the popularity of your blog and trying to get people to stay on it longer, you have to figure out ways to do it. One great way is to deep link. When they read your article, they’ll click on the link to the other article in the hopes of learning something else.
One thing to understand, though, about deep linking is that you only want to deep link to an article that would help explain something. As you can see here, I am writing about deep links, so I figured I’d give you an understanding of other types of links by linking to my other article. If I wrote an article about the importance of writing your content grammatically correct, I would not link to my article about adsense because they are not relevant. The relevance of the deep links is important because it’s your way of giving more information to the reader. You don’t want to send them on a wild goose chase to try and find more information. If you’re linking to random articles, they won’t learn anything because they’ll be trying to understand what you mean.
Deep links allows you to keep the reader on your blog for longer. It makes them go from one article to the other and if you deep linked properly, they’ll jump to another article and maybe even another. This increases the number of page views that you have on your blog and that could make you eligible to sign up for different types of ad networks on your blog. Having deep links gives you ways of increasing page views, but since your homepage usually carries the highest page rank, if you are deep linking to articles, you can start to get some page rank for your articles as well. And, since Text-Link-Ads offers a way to make money posting an ad on each and every one of your blog posts, the higher the page rank of each blog post, the better it can be for you. Try it out. Deep link to your articles and try and get people to stay on your blog longer. Good luck!

You have a good point about the importance of deep linking. There are several widgets that will do this at the bottom of your posts, too. However, a link within the text to explain something you’re discussing is helpful for the reader.
Enjoyed looking through your blog…
