Theme: Digg

What is Digg…For some, Digg is their livelihood. Without digg, their site would crumble and they would not make the money they needed to live. But, that’s okay. For some, that’s alright. Personally, I don’t rely on digg that much. Should I? Yeah, I might get more traffic and more earning, but I figure it’ll come when it comes. Digg is a social network. It allows you (or someone else) to post an article and then if people like that article, they digg it. Why is this good? Because as you get more diggs, your chances of getting on the homepage increases. Get on the homepage and well…That’s a hell of a lot of traffic to be sent to your site. So much traffic, if your hosting isn’t good, your site will go down.

But! This is good! Because, if you’re prepared for it and know to expect it, the results of digg could be phenomenal. Now, it depends on the type of site though. If all you run is a content site, you’ll get a huge rush of traffic, you’ll get some money from clicks, but people, once they know what they need to know, might not come back. So, what is digg good for then? It’s good for blogs. It’s particularly good for blogs because these types of sites are updated often. Once a day, twice a day, more quite a few times. That brings returned visitors. People might bookmark you if they find you from digg and that just means great things.

The downfall of digg and the reason I despise it. You can get buried. If someone doesn’t like you, they can get a few friends and bury your article. Then it disappears, never to be seen again. Get buried a few times and you’re banned. So, that’s a big problem because if you’re really looking for that rush of traffic, you can’t get it because you keep getting buried. The best thing, though, is if you can get one or two homepage diggs before getting banned. Get that many and viral marketing (will explain in a later article) will take over and more and more people will naturally find you. Check Digg out. It might be exactly what you’re looking for.
