Theme: Flipping Sites: Buy Cheap

August 19, 2007

This post is the start of a four part series all about the process of successfully flipping a site for a profit. Now, when I say flipping a site, what I mean is that the sole purpose of purchasing/creating a site is to sell. For example, I created this blog to grow it and earn a passive income off of it. However, when I’ve purchased certain content sites, I have bought them with the ultimate goal of reselling them. That is what flipping a site means. You buy it/create it extremely cheap and then you somehow expand it to the point that it would make a profit when you sold it. Now, the first step to successfully flipping a site is getting it cheap.

Now, you can do one of two things. If you know how to create a site, then you can really get a good system started just by writing the content (or purchasing it really cheap) and then building the site and selling it. But, let’s assume that you are buying the site. Your ultimate goal is to try and find a site that someone is really trying to get rid of. If you can find a site that someone had just made or something like that and purchase it for real cheap, you’re on the right track to getting your ‘network’ started. I call it a network because it really is a network. You’re getting a network started and then you’re going to sell that network.

Now, there’s something else that you can do when you are deciding to become a site flipper as I call it. You can try and find someone who is willing to create sites for you for an inexpensive price because you guarantee a bulk purchase. It’s one thing if you’re going to buy one site and then try and resell it. But, if you buy ten sites, that’s a lot of money that you’re investing and the person might be willing to create sites a bit cheaper for you. But, if you buy the site and it’s making a dollar a month. You probably won’t pay all that much for it and you want to try and keep the price as low as possible simply because you’re going to be selling it and the cheaper you buy it, the more profit you make.

I don’t have the most experience with this business because I like to keep my sites and try and profit from them with a passive income. However, I have sold sites before. And my policy has always been to make a profit from them. By purchasing your sites very cheap or the content that you will make the site with, you are guaranteeing that when you do decide to sell, you will have successfully built the site to make more money. These sites won’t cost you much with hosting, so it is really important that you continue to grow them. But, we’ll talk about the growth of the sites and how to build them up before the sale tomorrow. So, stay tuned for a post on building up a site for resale.
