Theme: Just a Gentle Reminder
August 27, 2007Congratulations you’re at college now. At your fingertips you have high speed internet to read DormEarning.com at 20x to 100x the speed of dial up. (Or at least that’s what we hope you’re doing between those long hours of studying.) Just keep in mind while high speed allows you to surf the internet at rapid pace, you are much more susceptible to viruses via broadband. Be sure to install a trusted version of a anti-virus software. Most colleges provide free copies of Norton or McAfee in the campus IT department. Go by in the coming days and ask your campus IT liaison about free software.
Another thing to remember is while downloads are much faster on broadband, that does not give you permission to illegally download music and programs. Be sure to use the legal methods to get your tunes and games. A great number of colleges have now signed contracts with companies such as Ruckus and Napster for you to have unlimited perfectly legal music downloads. Contact your campus IT professional for information on logging in for free music. Do not think just because you’re on campus, you can’t be tracked when downloading illegally. It is not unheard of for some students to actually be expelled for abuse of copyright law. Please, have a safe and fun fall semester.
