Theme: RSS Reader

July 6, 2007

I have been blogging on here for quite a while. For those that are new, go on and read my introduction. Some of my highlighted posts is the creating a content site series (there are three) and the types of sites post. These were some of my favorite posts to write (but I love writing them all). However, all this time, I never got a RSS reader. People came to my site and they read it (and I even got some clicks here and there), but no one ever subscribed to my RSS feed. I began to wonder if my writing was just poor, or perhaps no one liked my style of writing, or PERHAPS, no one knew it even existed. Well, today marks the day where I have my first reader and let me tell you, I am excited.

Now, why should I care about this, you may be asking. I care because it means that I have ONE consistent reader. The higher your RSS reader is, the more people that are coming back to your site to read it and this is great for advertisers to know. Sure, it’s not all that great for those that run Adsense, but even that may change since Google Bought Feedburner for $100 million. Now, Feedburner is just another site that deals with RSS feeds. But, since I use Feedburner on my site, I think this is great. Sooner or later, Adsense might start popping up in the Feedburner and this will give me another way to make money.

Now, if you are new to this blog and have not been reading since May 26, that’s alright! I wrote a post then about RSS Feeds and how to potentially increase your RSS feed. And I stand true to those tips even if my own success has not been there. I do try to increase my feed, but perhaps people just don’t know about it. One thing I would recommend and one thing I am going to do is include a mention of it at the bottom of each post. Just by doing this, you increase the chances of people joining the feed. If I can get my feed to 100 people, I am going to offer a contest right here on the blog, so maybe that’ll be reason enough to sign up.
