Theme: Swearing on Your Blog

January 27, 2008

One of the things that comes up often on different blogs is the use of swear words. There are bloggers out there that have no problem throwing a little F-bomb here or there when they are frustrated. Blogging is a very personal thing, even if the niche is not personal, and sometimes, if we are frustrated, the best can get to us and voila, curse words are thrown out around the blog. However, the big question is: should it be used?

In my personal opinion, I don’t really think that excessive F-bombs or C-word or things like that should be used. Why? While they don’t offend me at all, they could offend other people. They could make other people uncomfortable and why is that? I was raised in a very liberal household and while it was understood that cursing in front of my Mom was disrespectful, at the same time, she always understood that if I was incredibly stressed, something just say “fuck it” was the thing to say.

This post is pretty straight forward. Before you starting cursing on your blog, try and determine if people are going to care. I recommend against doing it and even I am sorry for the one curse in the previous paragraph. I don’t think that cursing is necessary, but some people really feel the need for it sometimes. Frankly, if you feel like cursing because you are so frustrated, just yell it out in your office or in your bedroom and then go back to your writing. Will be better than losing a few readers for your slip up. But, that’s my opinion. What do you think?
